A few week backs I ordered a book Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. I came to know about this book a year back when it was suggested by Amazon’s recommendation engine while searching some relevant stuff. The title was catchy so I went to main page of the book and started reading description. Since I have a habit of reading reviews too so got into review section and found pretty positive reviews.
Power of Habit is all about how to break a habit in a way that you don’t get into it again. It also tells why we do what we do something in our lives. Book has loads of pearls to discuss. I will discuss the main theme of the book that is, the Habit Loop.

Habit loop consist of 3 parts: Cue, Routine and Reward
Suppose you drink 10 cups of tea in a day and you want to getrid of this habit. As per book, you need to identify three things.
- Cue:- You feel headache and get drowsy
- Routine:- You call someone to make tea for you or make yourself
- Reward:- You feel energetic and fresh
Now what this book teaches that you can get-rid of this habit just by changing routine, that is, having a cup of tea. That’s it. Yes, that’s it. It does not seem as easy as it’s written but it’s doable.
I have finished this book and I’m definitely going to try gems given in it.
If you want to change some of your bad habits like chain smoking, eating junk food or.. you name it then don’t waste time and grab the book either from your local store of buy from Amazon. You will definitely thank me.
